Storage FAQ — Newton-Conover Self Storage

Have questions about storing at Newton-Conover Self Storage? Here are answers to the most common ones. Call (828) 464-5111 if you don't see your question.

What unit sizes do you offer at Newton-Conover Self Storage?

Standard sizes include 5x10, 10x10, 10x15, 10x20, and 10x30. Outdoor parking is also available for RVs, boats, and trailers. Our larger units work well as contractor garage and flex space.

What are your gate access hours?

Our gate is open 6 AM to 10 PM every day, seven days a week. Your unique gate code lets you in and out anytime within those hours.

How do I rent a unit?

The fastest way is online at our Rent Now page — pick a unit, sign electronically, pay, and get your gate code immediately. To rent over the phone, call (828) 464-5111.

Do you require a long-term contract?

No. All units rent month-to-month with no long-term commitment. You give a 30-day notice when you're ready to move out — no early termination fees.

Is there a security deposit?

No security deposit. You pay your first month's rent and any applicable admin fee at signup.

What payment methods do you accept?

All major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and debit cards. Most customers set up automatic monthly billing. Cash and check payments can be arranged with the office in advance — call ahead.

Can I store a boat, RV, or trailer here?

Yes. Outdoor parking is available for boats, RVs, trailers, and other vehicles. The dual-downtown location works well for Catawba County tradespeople and small businesses.

What about contractor equipment, business inventory, or commercial use?

Yes — we work with contractors, tradespeople, landscapers, and small businesses needing contractor garage and flex space. The larger units work well as a small commercial bay at a fraction of typical lease costs.

Do I need to bring my own lock?

We require a disc lock — padlocks aren't accepted because they're easier to cut. For your convenience, a quality disc lock is already placed in your unit and available for $15. If you'd prefer to use a disc lock you already own — or buy your own at Lowe's, Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Walmart, or Tractor Supply — just return the unit's lock to our lock dropbox. You're the only one with the key — we don't keep copies.

What if I'm moving from out of state or need long-term storage?

You can reserve and rent a unit online from anywhere before you arrive, get the gate code in advance, and pull straight in when your moving truck shows up. Month-to-month means you keep the unit as long as you need.

How do you handle late payments?

Rent is due on the first of each month. You'll get reminder messages by email and text if a payment is missed. Late fees apply per our rental agreement. If a unit becomes delinquent for an extended period, North Carolina self-storage law allows the facility to auction the contents — we work hard to reach customers before that. Call us anytime if you're in a tough month.

Are you locally owned?

Yes. Newton-Conover Self Storage is locally owned and operated. When you call (828) 464-5111, you reach a local team member — not a national call center.

Are you in Newton or Conover?

Our 2423 N Main Ave address is in Newton, but we're 0.2 miles from the Conover city line — about as central as a single facility can get for both downtowns. Customers from both Newton and Conover have an equally short drive.

How close are you to I-40 and US-70?

We're directly on N Main Ave in Newton. I-40 exit 130 (Hwy 16 / Newton-Conover) connects right into Newton — a few minutes away. US-70 also runs through Newton with a short connection to N Main. The location works well for Catawba County, Maiden, Claremont, Sherrills Ford, and Hickory-area customers using either I-40 or US-70.
