The layup questions come in every October around Newton and Conover. Here are the ones owners actually ask.
When's the right time to store it?
While the weather's still mild. The layup is a calm job in October and a miserable one in the first cold snap, when yards fill up and everyone's rushing. Earlier is easier.
Boat and RV — same prep?
Mostly the same idea, different specifics. On a boat, pull the plug and let it dry so there's no trapped water freezing. On an RV, run the water system out and add antifreeze per your manual — frozen lines crack and get expensive. Both want the canvas and electronics stored somewhere dry.
Do I store the rig and the gear together?
You can, in one location. We have room for the boat, RV, or trailer plus drive-up units for the gear that comes off. That's the convenience — one stop instead of two.
How big a parking space do I need?
Depends on the rig. Tell us what you've got — length matters more than you'd think — and we'll match it to the right spot rather than guessing.
Is it easy to get to over the winter?
We're on North Main in Newton, a straight run from Conover and off I-40, on the way from Sherrill's Ford or Claremont. Gate access runs well past office hours, so a winter check-in is no trouble.
How long do I have to commit?
Everything's month-to-month. Store for the off-season, close it out when the water warms — no year-round bill for a few months of layup.
If you're ready to put the boat or RV up for winter, you can reserve self storage in Newton online, or call and we'll match the space to your rig. Family-owned, and gearhead-friendly.
